Nathan Oliviera

Before college, most of my art heroes were illustrators ( Rembrandt and J.M.W. Turner being the notable exceptions). The work of Nathan Oliviera provided a good bridge between those commercial influences, and the threatening world of modern art. By now, it probably is obvious why a solitary figure portrayed in a vast landscape developed a sense of kinship within me. I believe the very physical way this artist applied thick paint also tapped into my then hidden 3-d predilections.
