At a time my work featured heavily textured figures; to have been thunder-struck by this sleek, hard edged geometric form seemed to be a sensation coming from nowhere…almost like a premonition. This was also, at least in a meaningful way, the first time cantilevering came into my consciousness. It would be years before I would act upon this stimulus. Reflecting back on how I first experienced this sculpture; it was almost as if it had always been there, buried just below surface clutter of my mind. Interesting, also, to realize that cantilevering was an oft used Frank Lloyd Wright devise…especially in” Falling Water”. Getting down-right weird, though, is the fact that engineer Bio-Grandad (yaw, the guy whose existence was not known to me until recently), had also used cantilevering extensively. Is there such a thing as pre-stressed I-beams in the genetic code?
